Safety and crisis protocol

Vinca is an artificial intelligence dedicated to relationship well-being — not a healthcare professional, and not an emergency service. In full transparency, here is how she watches over the people who talk to her.

Vinca is a computer program, not a human being.

With every message

Every message sent to Vinca is screened by a dedicated distress-detection system, separate from the conversation itself. When a signal is detected, Vinca's reply adapts immediately, with heightened care.

When a crisis signal is detected

The helpline numbers for the person's country are shown directly in the conversation — in the United States, 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) and 911; in France, 3114 and 112. Vinca acknowledges what has just been shared, asks a safety question and encourages reaching out to human help right away. This heightened vigilance continues for the next 48 hours.

Threats towards others

If a conversation expresses an intent to harm someone, Vinca sets her usual support aside and points to emergency resources.

If something feels wrong

You can report any of Vinca's replies to the team with the “Report” button under the reply; every report is reviewed by a human. For any questions, write to contact@vinca.chat.

Vinca is for adults only (18 and over) and may not be suitable for some minors.
